A great philosopher and author once said, “Change is the only thing that remains constant.” While this may seem like an oxymoron, it is more true than imaginable. From the earliest of times to just five minutes ago, change is constantly occurring in the world. People are changing in their own personal ways and the world is still changing and developing. The entire spectrum from microscopic to global is influenced greatly by change. Without change people would not have advanced into the technological powers we know them to be today. If change had never happened, we might see the world differently today; perhaps full of more vegetation or different colors, or perhaps a bit drearier with fewer resources and less power that is in the world today. Change is like the miracle of the butterfly. A low, squirming caterpillar goes into a mysterious cocoon surrounded by mystery, sits stagnant for a while, and emerges a beautiful butterfly, the queen of the world of insects. Change takes something that seems almost okay, flips it around by adding some unknown element, “chance” is a possible definition, and in the long run the thing that was changed comes out a butterfly. If it were possible to travel to a date that was a witness to possibly the most severe change the Earth has every experienced without the aid of humans it would be near 850 million years ago, when the Earth was preparing for the most horrible, though beneficial, ice ages in the complete and massive history of the world. This ice age covered almost the entire spherical ball referred to as Earth even in some parts on the Equator This drastic change in temperature prompted changes in other geographical features of the Earth and in organisms, as is predictable with change. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_Age). Change always prompts more change. Change does not act as a cycle though; it is more like dominoes falling over one another. The ice age that occurred during this time period is speculated to have been the cause for the rapid appearance of many complex life forms. To expand upon this theory there is a hypothesis that revolves around the concept of Darwinism, “various movements or concepts related to ideas of transmutation of species or evolution” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwinism). Changes in environment, hunting habits of predators, or many other factors influence animals and their need to adapt to survive. These are a few of the most controversial instances of change in the world’s entire history.
Millions of years after these events, circa 5000 B.C., man had started to become dominant in a sense. People changed from being nomadic hunter gatherers to farmers. This was the most beneficial change the entirety of humanity has ever gone through. Humans no longer had to migrate from place to place following their food. They could create their own food. The hunters and gatherers are now not as necessary as farmers and builders. People realized though, that if the hunters could get a lot of meat for them, they would not have to find their own meat. The hunters wanted something in return for all of this meat that they received by their own so they traded their goods for the goods of farmers. This was also a huge achievement in the direction towards the goal of civilization. Tribes have changed greatly and developed commerce. Besides just trade, though many other aspects of culture had begun to take on some kind of distinct form. People began living in some sort of stable structure, most probably not houses as we know them today but houses that could not be packed up and carried to another location for the mere fact that it was not necessary anymore. Humanity had developed the foundation for cities, countries, and empires (http://tinyurl.com/ydnj74e).
This day and age is still experiencing dramatic changes. While they may not be as drastic or dramatic as total continent shifts or developing culture, they are affecting everyone involved to the greatest possible extent. Our most recent president, the 44th president of the United States, Barack Obama had his campaign based primarily on this aspect of history. Change. Obama has challenges to overcome and he shall do that by changing what may not be working out as was intended. He is working on the economy, health care, and many other aspects of society. Barack Obama has a lot of big ideas for the economy. He wants to raise taxes for people with a lot of income and lower taxes for people with less income. This will eventually, hopefully change the social structure a bit and make it so that there is not so large of a difference between upper and lower classes. Obama is also working on reforming the health care policies of the United States. He has proposed many laws to change how health care providers treat their patients, make it so that every American requires health care, and so on. While health care reform and economic change may seem like they are just benefiting Americans, this is not true. Other countries may adopt these same policies and become similar to the United States. Also, Obama does have an impact on foreign matters, such as how their governments are being run and he has been making large decisions in relation to the wars going on in other countries (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barak_Obama). Change may start out small, but it can grow and grow and end up changing the world.
Change can have staggering effects upon life as we know it. It cannot even be speculated how much the Earth has changed since the beginning of time. It has been shifted, morphed, flipped, and turned every way possible and may be completely different in a few thousand years. From the ice age to economic policy change has made everything something strange and new. Change is good and is the only reason that history is formed.

This is a good start. I would advise two things: 1) branch out from just using encyclopedia entries as sources. 2) I like how you use both ancient and recent examples, but you could structure this better. Perhaps, choosing four examples (2 ancient, 2 recent) and contrasting them against one another.
