I believe that war is a form of technology. Technology is defined as, “The creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment” (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Technology). This means that technology covers a large range of subjects, and not just new inventions or electronic equipment. Technology can be specific actions that were performed in relation with tools, but not limited to either one. War incorporates both of these aspects of technology. For anything to be technology, it must have some effect on the outside world. War can have immense effects on life and society. The war that most know of is the American Civil War. This war was fought mainly over the subject of slavery, some states were for slavery and some were against (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Civil_War). By the end of the war 600,000 lives were lost and 4 million people were emancipated from slavery (http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/ht/?period=10®ion=na). This shows technology and advancement in their most raw forms. War developed out of a disagreement and incorporated many tactics and weapons, and still has lasting effects on today’s society. The technology of this war has brought the United States together and abolished slavery. War is clearly technology as it pushes societies forward in terms of advancement and development.
