Punic War in Rome

Living in Rome in 264 BC at the beginnings of what will be three great wars I am scared for the wellbeing of my nation. Rome has proven that they can attack from sea and that is something that we Romans have not acquired yet. They can hurt us with their navy and we have to scrounge together a makeshift navy to even have a chance of competing in this war. I do not know what the Carthaginians will do to me or the Roman government or village life but there is a good chance that Rome may be no more.
Today, in contrast there is more good than bad for me personally. We are rapidly advancing in computer technology and the like. Our government is stable but we are in a few wars. There does not seem to be any chance that our country may be captured by the opposing countries though. As a whole the United States is more stable than Rome was at the start of the Punic Wars.
