Viking Raids

Vikings preferred to use weapons that they were able to throw at the people of the villages they were plundering. The Vikings did not have a single leader governing over them.

The Vikings, in the middle of the ninth century, are in a great position to plunder the entire European world. Using the navigable rivers that were scattered heavily around Europe thy could bring their war ships wherever they pleased. They target Paris. The leader of Rome pays Vikings a lot of money for a bribe to get the Vikings to leave. This has the opposite effect and the Vikings realize they can get money and then plunder.

Christians seem to be the most prone to Viking attacks.

Erik the Red settled on Iceland . He advertises Iceland as "Greenland." His son, Lief Ericsson follows after his father as an adventurer. He traveled west to Greenland but is blown off course. Other Vikings follow and establish Newfoundland. Lief Ericsson also introduced Christianity to the Vikings.

The Christian Vikings found resistance from Pagan Vikings and were pressured to not give up their old gods. These Vikings set up a fire; one for Christianity, one for Paganism. There were representatives from each group. Th Pagan could not walk through the Christian's fire and thus Christianity became the dominant Viking religion.

Harold was a fifteen year old Viking boy who would go on to do great things for Rome.
