Vikings

Vikings were expert ship builders who utilized their skills to plunder various lands. They population various areas such as Sweden, Norway, Denmark and similar places.

There were separate tribes of people in Gaul. The Druids practiced an earth-based religion. Rome conquers Gaul and that area became a mix of Roman and Celtic culture.

Religion
As Christianity developed in Rome, so did Christianity in Gaul and other places where Rome was dominant. The northern viking areas were not under the control of Rome and were not influnced.

In Norse mythology there are nine worlds:

Midgard- This is the place we live
Alfheimr- In front of us of us elves
Svartalfaheim- Behind us, black elves
Vanaheimr- Heroes live there
Muspellheim- The world of fire, where the sun comes from
Jotunheimr- The land of giants
Niflheim- To the west land of ice
Asgard- The place where the Gods live. If a warrior dies in battle they will be taken to Valhalla where Odin lives with his sons.
Hel- The Neverworld
Ginnungagap- The land farthest away at the very end of the ocean. No one has ever been there.

Two books most important in Norse and Viking mythology
The Edda- Poetic Edda and Prose Edda. The stories of the gods are in these books.
Yggdrasil tree grows from Midgard and up through Asgard. It was there since the beginning of creation.
Heimskringla- Stories of kings. Written by Snorri Sturluson.
Ragnarok- The story of the great battle that will happen at the end of the world between the gods. The world will be engulfed in fire. A new world will grow forth from the ashes.

Eirik the Red and Lief Ericsson are possibly the most well known vikings. Lief Ericsson ventured to North America.

The vikings went to Iceland, then Greenland, and finally to North Amerca, killing people all the while and plundering the areas.

The viking buried heroes in their ships and then buried the ships.

The vikings crept up upon, attacked, and plundered one of the most holiest places in the Nortic world, Linensfarm.

Norse Runes were the alphabet.
