April 26 Notes

Started in the 11th century.
Popes sent noblemen across to Jerusalem.
In the First Crusade few men made it to Jerusalem.
The Europeans did eventually take control of Jerusalem but were overthrown in the beginning of the thirteenth century.
The Kingdom of the Franks became France.
After the Normans came to England they took control and were succeeded by Plantagenet.
The Capetians had ties to French culture. This leads to the introduction of Gothic architecture in England.
In the eight century Spain was occupied by the Moors. The Muslims ruled the country for seven hundred years.
In Alexandria there was a great library which burned down.
Constantinople was taken over by the Muslims and becomes Istanbul.
As a result of these two events, a lot of knowledge is lost.
The mistake made in the beginning of the Crusades is that the Pope wanted to take Jerusalem back. The actual result was that the Muslims were made into an enemy.
Europe is thrown into a Dark Age but the people who retained their knowledge are going through a Renaissance. .
The Europeans are surprised to find that the Moors of Spain are a thriving. They understand the works of Aristotle and this is their key to fulfillment.
Aristotle gave a name for organized thought processes: Logic.
The theories of the Moors in Spain led to the formation of Dialectic philosophy.
The Normans brought their language, Old French, to Latin-speaking countries and mix to form English.
Christianity is brought to the Western world, and has a big impact on the culture.
