French and English Gothic Art and Architecture

The image on the left shows an altar cross from Great Britain constructed out of walrus ivory. The item on the right is a plaque of Jesus on the cross from France. Both of these pieces of art are the central symbols of the Christian faith and represent a connection between French and English culture.

The cathedrals are both influenced by Gothic architecture. The one on the left, St. Dennis Fassade, is from France and the one on the right, Peterborough Facade, is from England. Many of the structures are similar, such as the rounded arches surrounding the entrances. Also, there are steep hip roofs on both, though there are more on the English building. Both of these buildings incorporated aspects of the Gothic revival.

The image on the left is from France, Bordeaux Cathedrale. The image on the right is from England, Lincoln Cathedral. Both of these rose windows are very similar in design. Both windows have designs, both of which appear to resemble leaves covering them. Both windows are round and are mounted above the entrance to the cathedral. Both of these windows draw inspiration from Gothic designs.
