There are two main types of exploration: External and internal. Explorers who study the world externally uncover artifacts and other physical properties of the earth. Internal explorations involve the collection of information from the human mind. While both of these types of exploration are important, internal exploration is more important than external. It takes great explorers to forgo grueling travels and discover new lands, people, and artifacts, but it takes even greater minds to know that there is more out there. For instance, in the case of the Black Plague, external exploration resulted in something horrific and internal exploration cured it. The disease was spread from infected rats and corpses through trade routes and war. The disease was subdued, however, with the minds of philosophers and Pope Clement VI. Fire was used to combat it for a while and other remedies were tried, some that did work. Also, internal exploration was very important in Florence. A man by the name of Filippo Brunelleschi worked on the conundrum of constructing a domed cathedral. With all of his complex math and revitalization of old artistic principles, Brunelleschi constructed the dome. This was one of the greatest moments in western history and made Florence the greatest city of its time. This was all the result of internal exploration.
