Medici Exploration

File:Medici stemma1.jpgIn Fifteenth century Florence, there was a family named Medici. Growing from humble beginnings the Medici family became a political dynasty. They were the patrons to the arts, a bold move to take but worked itself to perfection with the Medicis. When the Medici family was just starting out in their banking operations, they took an extremely bold move. The commissioned a man and would back him up on his way to become a Pope. Since he had no other followers besides the Medici family, he was named Antipope John XXIII. The Medici explored into the religious side of Florence because they knew if they could get a Pope elected he would stand behind them. The Medici bank became known throughout the entire western world because of their daring to explore. After the Medici became known they took an even deeper step into exploration. This time it was of the mind. They commissioned for Filippo Brunelleschi to work on the Florence Cathedral. To some he was insane, to others he was a genius who could fix the problem of the dome. And he worked all of his waking hours working on this problem. The Medici family may not have understood just what they had done but Brunelleschi was radical and was an explorer of knowledge. After success and turmoil alike, the cathedral was built. The name of Medici rang out continuously all over the world. They had made all of the right move into exploration and came out, just as they had always wanted: impossibly powerful.
